ID MPL for Gauteng, Khosi Mncedane has called on the provincial
department of health to investigate the incident of a doctor who
allegedly abused patients while drunk on duty at Kalafong Hospital in
Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

'The Independent Democrats calls on the hospital's management and the
department to investigate these allegations fully, before they set a
bad precedent,' Ms Mncedane says.

'We cannot have a doctor being drunk on duty when his job is to save
the lives of patients. Doctors therefore need to be of sober mind.

'This type of behaviour damages the reputation of the public service
and in many instances discourages people from seeking the services
they are entitled to,' says Mncedane.
