07 December 2011 - Independent Democrats NCOP Representative, Mr JOHN GUNDA MP says there are great challenges that we have to face and tackle during the coming year, especially decisions that will have an impact on our constitution and the future of our country...
Hon Chair
Hon Members
The time has come to reflect on the year we’ve had, and at the same time to be optimistic about the year that lies ahead.
There are great challenges that we have to face and tackle during the coming year, especially decisions that will have an impact on our constitution and the future of our country.
What stood out the most over this past year was the involvement and input of powerful voices from ordinary South Africans on issues which would have a direct impact on them, especially the hype around the Protection of Information Bill.
We hope that the forthcoming year will address areas in government which have fallen short of robust intervention.
Furthermore, we take note of the ANC’s centennial celebration, which is to be held early next year.
We do, however, hope that these celebrations will not be held at the expense of the poor.
It is time for you - the ANC – to develop, to educate and to empower the poorest of the poor and grant them economic freedom and sustainability that is long overdue.
May they also reflect on the sacrifices that leaders such as Lilian Ngoyi, Nelson Mandela, Walter and Albertina Sisulu, Winnie Mandela and many more have made, so that we could have freedom in our country today.
On behalf of the Independent Democrats, we take this opportunity to wish each and every Member o f this House a safe and peaceful festive season and a prosperous New Year.
I thank you!
Ek Dank U!
Ke leboga!
Siyabonga!
