ID REACTION TO MATRIC RESULTS
7 JANUARY 2010-Haniff Hoosen, the ID Spokesperson on Education, has called the 2% decline in the 2009 matric pass rate ‘extremely disappointing.
Haniff Hoosen, the ID Spokesperson on Education, has called the 2%
decline in the 2009 matric pass rate ‘extremely disappointing.
‘Given the billions of rand we have invested in education since Freedom, the fact that we spend more on education than almost any other developing nation in the world and that a decent education is fundamental for the development of our nation, the matric results for 2009 are pathetic,’ Mr Hoosen says.
‘Except for KwaZulu-Natal, which has shown a slight improvement in results, the performance of every other province has been dismal.
‘New plans are introduced with each new minister, but every time they fail to meet the hopes and aspirations of our people,’ says Hoosen.
‘Taxpayers must be throwing their hands up in the air in dismay because it really seems that the ANC Government is incapable of improving the situation.
‘These results are a clear indication and proof that OBE has failed our country and a complete overhaul of our curriculum is urgently required,’ Hoosen says.
