Deputy Speaker...

Last week, I felt a familiar PAIN as an Honourable Member of this House reminisced on the emotional abuse that she had to endure for the sake of her children. Painful!

There is a weapon that destroys the family unit on a daily basis; and it is the SHARP TONGUE of many fathers, husbands and male relatives in ALL communities and in ALL walks of life.

Ek kan nog duidelik onthou hoe my biologiese pa, my ma agter gelaat het vir groener weivelde. ‘n Paar jaar later moes ek en my jonger broer aanskou hoedat ‘n eers goed gesinde stiefpa daagliks op ‘n
agresiewe verbale wyse ons ma verneder. Hy het wel finansiel en op alle vlakke van ons kinder jare goed na ons omgesien; maar die emosionele mishandling en vernedering voor vreemde mense was PYNLIK.

My mummy moes dit alles verduur want die welstand van haar kinders was vir haar meer belangriker as die uitlatings van sy skerp tong. Ek is dankbaar dat my mummy die wysheid, leierskap en geloof gehad het, om haar kinders eerste te stel, en ‘n gesonde keuse uit ge-oefen het, sodoende het sy haar rug gekeer op ‘n mishandelde verlede.

So het sy ons Vryheid gebring!

My wish is that over the festive season, there will be no emotional abuse by men to their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters and young brothers.
