ID SHOCKED BY ANC WESTERN CAPE'S PROMOTION OF FORMER NATIONAL PARTY MEMBERS
16H00, 31 JULY 2008-Rodney Lentit, the ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, says the ID is 'shocked by the promotions in the new Western Cape Cabinet of three former New National Party (NNP) members.
Rodney Lentit, the ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, says the
ID
is 'shocked by the promotions in the new Western Cape Cabinet of
three
former New National Party (NNP) members.
'The promotion of former National Party members Patrick McKenzie,
Joyce Witbooi and Pierre Uys comes as a shock to the Independent
Democrats,' Mr Lentit says.
`This is hypocrisy of the worst kind. On the one hand the ANC says
the
Scorpions must go because it is linked to the National Party
Apartheid
government, but the ANC sees it fit to promote old National Party
members to positions of power in government,' says Lentit.
`I am sure that there must be many ANC members who are ashamed of
this
decision. The ANC has really lost sight of the values that
inspired
our struggle against Apartheid.'
Lentit says the ID 'will monitor the new Cabinet closely to
ensure
that service delivery and the fight against poverty are not
compromised even further.'
