ID WANTS ANSWERS OVER SCOTT-CROSSLEY PAROLE QUEUE JUMPING
14H15, 27 AUGUST 2008-Sakkie Jenner, MP and the ID spokesperson on correctional services, has called on the department 'to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mark Scott-Crossley's jumping of the parole queue.'
Sakkie Jenner, MP and the ID spokesperson on correctional services,
has called on the department 'to conduct a thorough investigation into
the circumstances surrounding Mark Scott-Crossley's jumping of the
parole queue.'
Scott-Crossley, who threw the body of an ex-employee to lions, was
released last week.
'We in the Independent Democrats are concerned about hearing that
this man, who was a perpetrator of the worst kind of racist violence,
would be released from prison so soon. South Africans have been treated
to a further shock that he could have jumped the queue for parole,' Mr
Jenner says.
'If this is the case, then it sends out the wrong message to
perpetrators of violence and racism in our society.
'The Independent Democrats would like to see a thorough investigation
into the circumstances surrounding his parole process so we can find
out whether the victim's family was not consulted,' says Jenner.
'If they were not, the ID would like to see those responsible brought
to book for what appears to be a complete disrespect of the rights and
sensitivities of the family of the late Nelson Chisale.'
