ID’S PATRICIA DE LILLE TO ATTEND 3 WOMEN’S DAY EVENTS - IN SOMERSET WEST, MITCHELL’S PLAIN AND GEORGE

6 AUGUST 2010-ID President Patricia de Lille says women should use the opportunity of Women’s Day ‘to reflect on their dreams and aspirations.

ID President Patricia de Lille says women should use the opportunity of Women’s Day ‘to reflect on their dreams and aspirations.

‘More importantly they should identify the obstacles that stand in the way of achieving their dreams,’ Ms De Lille says.

‘We cannot allow our fears to continue to trap us in a situation where we do not develop to our full potential. This is why it is so important to make it clear to those around us, and especially the men in our lives, that we need their support, rather than their opposition.’

The ID Leader conceded that ‘the feminization of poverty means that millions of women in our country continue to bear the brunt of not only poverty, but also unemployment, HIV and Aids and other devastating social ills.

‘We all have a responsibility to ensure that the women that remain marginalized for these reasons begin to taste the fruits of our democracy,’ says De Lille.

The ID President’s schedule for Monday is as follows –

1. Women’s Day breakfast buffet at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, with 150 women from Ward 15, Macassar. Breakfast begins at 08H30, after which Ms De Lille will hold an interactive discussion on ‘How we remove the obstacles in the way of our dreams.’

Members of the media wishing to attend should call Ward Councillor John Heuvel on 072 197 1793.

2. Women’s Day lunch at Portlands High School, on the corner of Merrydale and Morgenster Roads in Mitchell’s Plain, at 11H00, where Pastor Patrick Lewis of a newly-launched church has invited 50 women from the surrounding area for an afternoon of good food, prizes and a discussion with Ms De Lille. Pastor Lewis can be reached on 082 7970637.

3. Women’s Day celebration at the George Civic Centre, at 71 York Street, where Ms De Lille will speak at 15H00.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
