ID's De Lille lodges ANCYL complaint with Human Rights Commission (HRC)
19H00, 17 June 2008 - ID President Patricia de Lille has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission over remarks made by Julius Malema, the ANCYL President, at a Youth Day rally in Thaba Nchu in the Free State yesterday.
ANCYL President Julius Malema said, 'We are prepared to take up arms
and kill for Zuma.'
Malema was speaking in the context of the corruption trial of ANC
President Jacob Zuma.
Here is the complaint:
This complaint concerns the comments made by ANC Youth League President
Julius Malema at a Youth Day rally in Thaba Nchu in the Free State on
17 June, 2008.
He said, 'We are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma,' referring
to the ANC President in the context of his corruption trial. The
Independent Democrats regards Mr Malema's comments as inflammatory,
dangerous and irresponsible. They are an incitement to violence.
For a youth leader, Mr Malema is setting the wrong example completely,
especially in a society where there is tendency to settle disagreements
through violent means. In effect, he is perpetuating and contributing
to a culture of violence.
I would like to appeal to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) to make a
ruling on this. We also believe that besides the right to life, Mr
Malema has also violated the right to free political activity.
Yours sincerely,
Patricia de Lille
