NEWS RELEASE
ID MP Lance Greyling has welcomed the news that the Waterkloof
Four 'are finally in prison for their murder of a homeless man' in what
appeared to be a racist attack.
'We in the Independent Democrats hope that the years they are to spend
in jail will help water down the arrogance they showed throughout their
many court appearances,' Mr Greyling says.
'It is also our hope that over time each of them will come to terms
with the fact that they murdered another human being and that in South
Africa our national vision is to make all lives equal and
precious.
'The ID would like to see the four come to terms with the fact that
what they did was wrong,' says Greyling.
He called on all South African parents, 'especially whites, to teach
their children tolerance for people from other race groups.
'Unless we do this, the recent racist attacks by white boys at the
University of the Free State, at the University of Johannesburg and in
Skierlik, will multiply, resulting in a heightening of racial tension,
which goes against the spirit of our nation,' Greyling says.
'When children as young as 15-years are found guilty of racist attacks
we cannot avoid the role of parents who are on a daily basis imposing
their own racist mindset from the Apartheid era onto their
children.
'As a nation we must stand against racism in any form and it is our
duty to report racist incidents whenever they happen,' says
Greyling.
