ID WESTERN CAPE CALLS FOR INCREASED POLICE VISIBILITY AROUND PENSION PAY-OUT POINTS
17 NOVEMBER 2008-Rodney Lentit, the ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, has called on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to provide ‘increased visibility in the areas around pension pay-out points to protect beneficiaries, especially the elderly, and ensure they get their money.’
Rodney Lentit, the ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, has called on
the South African Police Service (SAPS) to provide ‘increased
visibility in the areas around pension pay-out points to protect
beneficiaries, especially the elderly, and ensure they get their
money.’
Mr Lentit’s call comes after staff at a pay-out station was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money in Khayelitsha, on the Cape Flats.
‘More visible policing is urgently needed around pay-out points to prevent criminals from pouncing on the vulnerable,’ says Lentit.
‘We cannot allow these criminals to steal the bread and butter out of our elderly peoples’ mouths. Their actions are completely immoral and we need to take them on with more strategic and visible policing.
‘The Independent Democrats call on the SAPS to not only to look after the people living under Table Mountain and along the Atlantic Seaboard, but to do the same for the destitute living on the Cape Flats,’ says Lentit.
‘We need to ensure that all our people are looked after, regardless of their social standing in our society.’
