STATEMENT BY ID PRESIDENT PATRICIA DE LILLE ON RESIGNATION OF SIMON GRINDROD
20 NOVEMBER 2008-Simon Grindrod has informed the Independent Democrats of his resignation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Simon Grindrod has informed the Independent Democrats of his resignation.
In his letter of resignation Mr Grindrod says that his resignation was an extremely difficult decision and that it in no way reflects on the President, leadership or his colleagues in the ID.
Mr Grindrod states that his resignation is a personal decision that he has taken in order to grasp the opportunity of working for COPE.
As much as we are surprised and disappointed by Mr Grindrod’s resignation, the ID has many capable candidates to take over his duties.
Mr Grindrod was the second of two ID Deputy Presidents and the first Deputy President, Ms Agnes Tsamai will continue serving in that position.
Our membership currently stands at 238 000 members from all sectors of South African society and is growing on a daily basis.
The Independent Democrats is a young party with a proven track record of fighting for the poor and for social justice.
No other party has fought for the same issues as consistently as the ID and we are confident that we will continue to grow from strength to strength.
We wish Mr Grindrod well with his new party.
