8 JANUARY 2009-Rodney Lentit ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary has called on Marius Fransman, Western Cape MEC for Health to immediately investigate an incident where a Retreat woman was declared dead at her local day hospital, despite being alive.
Rodney Lentit ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary has called on Marius
Fransman, Western Cape MEC for Health to immediately investigate an
incident where a Retreat woman was declared dead at her local day
hospital, despite being alive.
Lentit’s statement follows a report that the woman, Alma Arendse is being refused medication, by the day hospital because she “died” last year already.
‘This issue needs to be looked at urgently and rectified as soon as possible.’
‘It is completely unacceptable that these sort of ‘mistakes’ still take place in today’s technological era. Why can’t a new docket simply be opened for her?’ asks Lentit.
‘Even with the help of the local ID councillor the problem has still not been resolved, as the head of the clinic is on leave.’
‘We cannot afford to play with the lives of our people. Arendse has a family,’ says Lentit.
‘We urge Fransman and his staff to find a solution to this dilemma, so that the woman can have access to her life saving medication.
