ID GAUTENG - NEW GOVERNMENT SHOULD STRENGTHEN SERVICE DELIVERY MONITORING SYSTEMS

Khosi Mncedane, ID Gauteng MPL says the rate at which service delivery
protests are taking place across Gauteng, is an indication that local
governance has failed and that an improvement is needed in the
monitoring systems which regulate service delivery.
Mncedane’s comments follow protest action and road blockages, by a large group of Vereeniging residents this morning, in the area. These residents raised a number of issues including housing, and the supply of water and electricity.
‘It is not as if our people want Government to provide everything for free, but are only calling on assistance for the things they can not afford like land and houses. These are budgeted for by National Government but the money does not seem to arrive at the various departments.’
‘The Independent Democrats understands that not every need can be immediately met, but Government needs to radically improve service delivery,’ Mncedane says.
‘It is not an ideal situation when people revolt against their own government for simple things like water and electricity that could be easily attended to with effective delivery and monitoring.’
