ID’S PATRICIA DE LILLE SLAMS ZILLE AND ZUMA FOR THEIR ‘IGNORANCE OF THE CONSTITUTION’
19 APRIL 2009-ID President Patricia de Lille has slammed DA and ANC leaders Helen Zille and Jacob Zuma ‘for their comment that a vote for other parties is a wasted vote.
ID President Patricia de Lille has slammed DA and ANC leaders Helen
Zille and Jacob Zuma ‘for their comment that a vote for other parties
is a wasted vote.
‘Unlike the DA and the ANC, the ID respects the rights contained in the Constitution for all South Africans to vote for a political party of their choice, within the Constitutional context of a multi-party democracy,’ Ms De Lille says.
‘We fought for the rights of our people to have a multi-party democracy precisely because of the diversity of South African society. Our people are not only voting for parties based on size, they are voting on the basis of the principles, policies and visions of parties.
‘Both of them are telling people that if they do not vote for the DA or the ANC they will be wasting their vote, which is untrue because we have a proportional representational system and every vote counts,’ says De Lille.
‘It is undemocratic and just plain wrong to say that you will uphold the Constitution on the one hand, while on the other you make comments that violate certain Constitutional rights of our people,’ De Lille says.
‘Zille and Zuma are not democrats because they want total control and want our country to become a two-party state, which will never work in South Africa,’ De Lille says.
‘The Independent Democrats is 5-years-old and in the past year we have taught the older parties, like the DA, which is almost 30 years old, and the ANC, which is almost a 100 years old, some powerful lessons in the 11 bi-elections we have beaten them in.’
