Clandestine DA survey showed strong support for De Lille and the ID
2004-04-06. The DA has conducted a clandestine survey amongst hundreds of DA supporters in Gauteng and the Western Cape to gauge the impact of Patricia de Lille's Independent Democrats on their core constituencies. The results were so damaging to the DA that the survey was suppressed.
The survey was conducted by a front company of the Democratic Alliance,
BW Marketing Surveys. BW Marketing Surveys is a Cape Town based
company registered under the name of Belinda Walker current DA
councilor in Cape Town.
The survey revealed that in the Western Cape and Gauteng the DA could lose up to a third of its core base to the Independent Democrats. The statistics gave an indication of why the Democratic Alliance embarked on an open attack on the Independent Democrats and their leader in the last month, spending millions of rands.
The data clearly indicates that De Lille's party could cause a surprise upset in the upcoming elections. There is no doubt that the ID is a major threat to the support base. The principled and back-to-basics approach of the Independent Democrats clearly has appeal to the disenchanted DA supporters who have lost faith in Leon, Gibson and Ryan's negative campaigning.
"We are certainly taking many votes from the DA. But more importantly, we are also attracting many voters from the ANC," Patricia de Lille commented.
