Mbeki should go for public HIV test: De Lille

2004-04-05. Patricia De Lille, the Independent Democrats (ID) leader, has challenged President Thabo Mbeki to go for a public HIV test. De Lille was speaking at the launch of her party's 'Know Your Status' campaign at the Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital today.

De Lille and nine other ID leaders are taking HIV tests today. She says if the president took a public test, he would demonstrate the importance of knowing one's status to the rest of the country.

De Lille says South Africa needs a leader to personify the Aids struggle, as happened with the apartheid struggle.
