ID welcomes the opportunity for a new development model in Pondoland
2004-12-09. The Independent Democrats welcome the decision by the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, to set aside the recommendations of the Record of Decision on the Environmental Impact Assessment on the construction of the N2 Toll Road in Pondoland Region.
The ID believes the Minister's decision presents an opportunity for a
new model of development in the Pondoland Region that will ensure full
participation of all stakeholders.
"The ID is clear that the need for development in Pondoland Region is clearly important and that government resources must be directed this developmental need. We maintain, however, that this development must and should be done in manner that is sustainable, equitable and environmentally friendly," said Lance Greyling, ID Environmental Spokesperson.
The ID looks forward to working with the government and local stakeholder to in bringing about this vision for this unique area of the world.
