Independent Democrats Statement on slow rollout of Anti-Retroviral Drugs

2004-11-08. Government originally stated that 53000 HIV positive persons would be on Anti-Retroviral (ARV) drugs by March 2004. This target was then shifted by President Mbeki to March 2005. This morning, Dr Rose Malumba from the Dept. Health, said on SAFM that this new target set by Pres. Mbeki, would also not be achieved. It is not even clear when we will reach this target.

Ignorance of the Law or rule is no excuse, says ID

2004-11-12. "The way in which parliament is going now makes a mockery of the Code of Ethics. For the committee to say that because of the company was dormant the breach is less serious, contradicts the Code that explicitly require that even dormant companies must be declared," this was the stern warning issued by Patricia de Lille, Leader of the Independent Democrats, during the tabling of committee report on Allegations of non-disclosure by Members of Parliament today.

2004-11-15. The Independent Democrats caucus accepted Mr Lennit Max's resignation as the ID Leader in the Western Cape Province. Mr Max is presently overseas and the Caucus felt it would be unfair to disclose the reasons for his resignation while he is away. When he returns the Caucus will advise him of their decision.

The Independent Democrats will launch an HIV/AIDS Training Programme called "Bridges of Hope"

2004-11-30. The Independent Democrats will launch an HIV/AIDS Training Programme called "Bridges of Hope" for its members from various branches in KwaZulu-Natal. The launch of the programme, which will coincide with the World Aids Day, is primarily aimed at creating awareness about the existence of HIV/AIDS and building capacity of the ID members to become well-equipped foot soldiers in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their communities.
