Independent Democrats KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Congress
2004-11-10. The Independent Democrats, South Africa's fastest growing political party, will hold its KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Congress in Durban next week Sunday, 21 November 2004 under the theme "Bridging the political divides, Promoting Peace and Political Debate." The Independent Democrats Leader, Patricia de Lille, will deliver a key note address.
According to the SABC/Markinor Poll the ID tripled its support in less
than eight months and since the general election in April has increased
by 60% which makes the ID the third largest party in South
Africa. The ID support in KZN reflects the province demographics.
Delegates to the Congress come from all regions: Northern (Newcastle,
Ladysmith), North Eastern (Pongola, Hluhluwe), Midlands
(Pietermaritzburg), South Coast, North Coast , Greater Durban and a
number of rural areas.
The Congress will elect new Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) which will among other things be tasked with growing and consolidating ID support in KZN. The PEC, together with regional and local structures will also deliberate on strategies about ID's preparations for the next Local Government Elections.
