‘Bread prices must be fixed by Government,’ says ID’s Tsamai

13-11-2007, 13H00, Agnes Tsamai, Deputy-President of the ID, has called on the Competition Commission ‘to publish full-page advertisements of the names of companies responsible for fixing bread prices.

‘Companies that treat the poor with this level of contempt must be punished properly. Bread is a staple food and the time has come for Government to fix bread prices,’ says Ms Tsamai.

‘The Independent Democrats also wants to know what the National Revenue Fund plans to do with the R98.8m fine they are getting from Tiger Consumer Brands.

‘Government must put measures in place to prevent this from happening again. For instance, resources should be made available to poor communities to produce their own bread,’ Tsamai says.
