De Lille – ‘Lekota’s comments on greed show there has been no change’
19-08-2007, 13H45, ID President Patricia de Lille has congratulated defence minister Mosiuoa Lekota for chastising ANC members who ‘steal public funds because politics doesn’t pay.’
He made the comments at the commemoration of former ANC leader Peter
Nchabeleng in Limpopo on Saturday.
‘At least there is one minister who listened to President Mbeki’s Nelson Mandela Lecture, when he warned ANC members about the greed that is taking over the their party,’ President De Lille says.
‘However, the acknowledgement of the Minister of Defence shows that there has been no change since the President’s speech over a year ago.
‘The corruption that is taking hold of our country is because of these greedy people who, after getting money always want more. The time has come for the ANC to walk the talk and act against those corrupt, greedy officials,’ says De Lille.
‘Leaders in the ANC only talk about their party, but the truth is that this corruption and greed have far wider and extremely negative implications for South African society as a whole. As such, leaders in the ANC need to be patriotic and deal with it.’
