De Lille to meet MDC
07-08-2007, 12H30, Top-level ID Gauteng delegation to visit refugees on Wednesday
ID President Patricia de Lille will meet a high-level representative of
Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) within the
next two weeks.
President De Lille says the meeting ‘is in line with the ID’s policy of constructive engagement with all parties in the hope of finding solutions.’
‘This meeting is long overdue,’ says De Lille.
Tomorrow the leadership of the ID in Gauteng will visit 3 refugee hotspots in Johannesburg as part of a fact-finding mission to investigate the conditions in which Zimbabwean economic refugees are living and the impact their influx is having on the province.
The delegation will include Tinyiko Manyisa, the Provincial Chairperson of the ID in Gauteng, Rose Gudlhuza, an ID MPL in the Gauteng Legislature, Mervyn Cirota, an ID Councillor in Johannesburg and National Chairperson of the party, and Richard Pillay, also a Councillor in Johannesburg.
This is their schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday 8 August:
10H00 – Methodist Church in Pritchard Street
12H00 – Home Affairs office in Harrison Street
14H00 – Rossetenville Refugee Centre
‘The question the ID will be asking the MDC is, “what can we do to help the people of Zimbabwe and therefore the people of South Africa and Southern Africa as a whole?” The MDC and ID have a lot in common in terms of policy and we are looking to improve our relationship,’ says President De Lille.
