De Lille welcomes former Cape Town Deputy-Mayor into the ID fold
4-09-2007, 15H00, Gawa Samuels opens new ID branch in Mitchells Plein
ID President Patricia de Lille will tonight welcome Gawa Samuels, a
former Deputy-Mayor of Cape Town Metro, into the Independent Democrats
at 19H00 this evening.
Ms Samuels, who has also worked as the Mayco member for Housing, will be launching a new branch at the Disneyland Educare building, alongside the New Apostolic Church in Tuscany’s Vanguard Drive, in Mitchell’s Plein.
This area falls under Ward 17.
Samuels left the ANC because she was ‘very unhappy with its destructive faction-fighting.’
Ms Samuels still does community work in Mitchell’s Plein and she joined the ID because she feels that ‘it is the only party capable of truly bridging the divides and ID President Patricia de Lille is a no-nonsense person.
‘The party is also very strong on fighting corruption,’ says Samuels.
