Grindrod – ‘DA is lying about Jameelah Daniels and lied to Michael Britz’
02-09-2007, 14H00, ‘The DA is lying when it says ID Councillor in the City of Cape Town has crossed the floor,’ says Mr Simon Grindrod, the ID Caucus Leader for Cape Town.
Grindrod’s comments come after Jameelah Daniels walked into an ID press
conference in Parliament an hour ago and announced her loyalty to the
Independent Democrats.
‘The DA has been intimidating me,’ Daniels told journalists. ‘I challenge the DA to produce evidence that I have crossed the floor. The DA complains when other parties harass their councillors, but it is clear that they have double standards,’ said Daniels.
‘Plato and the Zille phoned me 8 times yesterday and I want them to stop pressurising me. I will make up my own mind and I have already confirmed that I am not for sale.’
Mr Grindrod has confirmed that ID Cape Town Councillor Michael Britz has signed up with the DA.
‘However, when I went to see him he told me that he signed on the basis that the DA showed him a list where his name did not appear as an ID Councillor after the walkover.
‘The ID explained to Britz that this was a false list and that every single serving ID Councillor in the City of Cape Town is secured until 2011. It is tragic that Britz fell for this dirty trick. He was very contrite,’ says Grindrod.
‘These kinds of dirty tricks must come to an end and I am appealing to the media to first check their facts before printing the misinformation of the DA.’
