ID – ‘we will meet the mafia at the polls’
11-09-2007, 15H00, ‘The Independent Democrats is a national political party that has 155 councillors across South Africa,’ says Izak Jenner, the ID’s Western Cape Provincial Chairperson.
‘We have gained another 11 nationally and will be announcing a further
7 soon.
‘We have not bought one public representative – those who have come to us share our vision, policy and principles,’ says Jenner.
‘The strength of the Independent Democrats will never be determined by those who cross the floor, but by the voters in 2009.
‘This is not an ‘oorloop seisoen’, but an ‘oorkoop seisoen’,’ Jenner says.
‘Those who were bought over and crossed the floor did so because the banks they owe money to need their monthly payments.
‘People have jumped to service their debts to the banks and not the voters,’ says Jenner.
‘It will be interesting to see how the mafia service their voters because they normally just take from the voters.
‘We will meet the mafia at the polls in 2009 because they cannot buy the voters like they have bought their public representatives,’ Jenner says.
