ID Chief Whip questions taxpayers’ R20b burden for PBMR
12-09-2007, 15H30, This is a copy of the question which the ID spokesperson on minerals and energy will be asking the Minister of Public Enterprises in the House today:
‘Once again we see in this Special Adjustments Appropriation Bill that
the ANC is more than willing to use vast sums of taxpayers’ money to
fund the Armaments and Nuclear industry.
‘I asked the question last year and I will ask it again this year - where is the business model for the PBMR that shows that this project will be economically viable and will justify taxpayers spending R20 billion simply to get a demonstration model up and running?
‘Where are the other investors that we have been hearing about for over a decade? Is the lack of investors forcing us to use an extra R1.8b rand of taxpayers money to fund an experiment that has already cost our country over R2.5 billion rand?
‘Will the Minister also explain to the House when, in the best possible case scenario, we can expect to see the first commercially available PBMR module?’
