ID West Coast stands united against ‘Skwatsha and his cronies’
4-09-2007, 12H30, All 11 ID West Coast Mayors, Deputy-Mayors and Councillors have told the media at a press conference at the West Coast District Council in Mooreesburg that they are ‘committed to the Independent Democrats.
‘We are not going to make use of the walkover period - the 5 municipal
councils along the West Coast are stable. The ID and the DA will remain
in control of them,’ they said in a joint statement.
The press conference began at 10H00 and was hosted by Sakki Jenner, the ID Western Cape Provincial Chairperson, and Provincial Treasurer (also Mayor of Bergrivier) Sammy Claassen.
‘We believe that the people on the ground trust the ID to be in control and the voters who voted for the ID are very proud of their Mayors, Deputy-Mayors and Councillors for fighting off the offers of ANC Provincial Secretary Skwatsha and his cronies in the ANC,’ says Claassen.
Claassen says the ID ‘has put the people first and I have full confidence that they will never break under the pressure.
‘The ID is growing and we are winning by-elections in the Western Cape. Come 2009 the Independent Democrats will take control of the province,’ he says.
