ID’s Secretary-General sworn in as Member of Parliament
5-09-2007, 16H00, Haniff Hoosen, the Secretary-General of the Independent Democrats, has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament.
Mr Hoosen was elected as the Secretary-General of the ID at the party’s
National Congress on the 8th of July this year, where he convincingly
beat the previous Secretary-General, Avril Harding.
Harding’s seat became vacant after he lost two court cases against the ID last week. Judge Dennis Davis ruled in the Cape High Court last Wednesday that Harding appear before a disciplinary hearing for sexual harassment on Friday, while on Friday Judge Davis ruled in favour of the ID’s expulsion of Harding, with costs.
Hoosen heralds from KZN, has served as the Chairperson of the ID National Councillors Forum and is a longstanding member of the National Executive Committee.
He also managed the ID’s Local Government Election Campaign in 2006.
