A caucus meeting attended by ID Members of Parliament today decided to
support all the recommendations of the Moseneke Commission regarding MP
salary increases. This comes after MPs from across the
political spectrum complained that the increases were not
enough. ‘The caucus of the ID today
took a decision to support the recommendations of the Commission,’ says
ID President Patricia de Lille. ‘It is
the first time in the history of our young democracy that we had a
professional evaluation of the three spheres of government, the
executive, the judiciary and Parliament.
‘We accept that this is the start of a process that will be
expanded and we welcome the fact that performance indicators will be
developed in the next phase,’ De Lille says.
‘The ID now calls on all political parties to support the Commission’s recommendations.’
