Long known for his community work, Poole was inside the ID branch
office in Rooiborsie Street, when he heard a man outside shouting ‘vang
hom’, or ‘catch him’.
I went outside and saw the man running after another man. I gave
chase and caught up with the suspected thief in a few seconds,’ says
Poole.
‘As I caught up to him he turned around and swung with his right
hand. I was stabbed in the cheek.’
Poole stood his ground and was soon joined by ‘a huge number of
members of my community’, who together helped him subdue his
attacker.
‘The guy had a cell phone that he allegedly stole from a 13-year
girl,’ says Poole.
After wresting control of the ward from the ANC last week on
Wednesday, the ID Councillor told a Cape Town newspaper, ‘Our children
have the right to grow up in a safe and drug-free environment.’
Poole is currently undergoing treatment for a deep stab wound at a
local doctor’s surgery. He has already laid a charge at the Paarl East
Police Station.
