Patricia de Lille delivers opening address at Mouth Painter’s Exhibition in Cape Town
03-08- 2007,11H00, ID President Patricia de Lille will deliver the opening address at the Annual Quadpara Association of South Africa (Qasa) Mouth Painters Exhibition at Kirstenbosch this evening.
The Exhibition, which runs from today, Friday 3 August, through to next
Thursday, will be opened by President De Lille at 18H30.
‘It is common knowledge that most quadriplegics have very limited use of the arms and hands, yet those in this position who have artistic talents and dreams have adapted to the disability and produce magnificent works of art using a paintbrush from their mouth,’ reads an excerpt from a Qasa press release about the event.
President De Lille says ‘it will be such a pleasure to thank our mouth painters for their tenacity and talent, without which our art world would be lacking.
‘Painting is a beautiful talent that inspires us to celebrate imagination and culture. I also can’t wait to view the 100 pieces of art done by the quadriplegic artists in South Africa,’ De Lille says.
‘This year, four themes have been brought into the collection: The Incident, The Hospitalisation, Rehabilitation, and Life after (Message of Hope). In addition to the art, a comic book illustrating the four stages has been produced and will be on display at the exhibition,’ reads the Qasa press release.
‘The journey that faces people who become spinal cord injured is a long and tough one and the art exhibition plays a role in creating awareness around the journey back to an integrated life, be that with the disability,’ it continues.
Members of the media are welcome to attend.
