Simon Grindrod to Agoraphobic NNP leader David Sasman – ‘Put up or shut up!’

03-09-2007, 11H15, For over a year David Sasman evaded facing an ID disciplinary hearing by submitting countless sick notes from a psychiatrist stating he suffers from acute Agoraphobia.

‘This illness is described as “a fear of going insane or losing control. Many sufferers experience a sense of impending doom,”’ says Mr Simon Grindrod, the ID Caucus Leader in the City of Cape Town.

According to Sasman’s doctor he was unable to attend any meetings whatsoever, or be in close proximity to people as this may trigger a panic attack.

‘This was also the reason given by Sasman for not attending any Council meetings for the last 8 months, despite claiming his full Councillor’s salary from City taxpayers,’ Grindrod says.

Sasman is currently on mood stabilisers and anti-depressants to prevent him becoming “aggressive and even violent under minimal provocation…even at home”. The ID has documentation to prove this.

‘The ID recognises the very real suffering of many who have Agoraphobia and does not wish to detract from the seriousness of this mental condition,’ says Grindrod.

‘The fact that Badih Chabaan has now crept back into the shadows, leaving Sasman in the firing line to face charges for the bribery of Councillors, is disgusting to say the least.

‘It is a shame that a person in Sasman’s condition must now deal with the fallout from these alleged criminal actions,’ Grindrod says.

‘By publicly claiming to be the leader of the NPP, Sasman has now revealed himself to have intimate knowledge of the well-publicised alleged illegal activities perpetrated during the formation of the NPP.

‘As for Sasman’s lies that he has successfully signed up ID councillors in the City of Cape Town, this is rejected as the fantasy of a very confused and unstable man who is clearly under the influence of Badih Chabaan,’ says Grindrod.

‘The ID caucus in the City remains united and wants noting to do with Sasman, Chabaan and their cronies. The only confirmed walkover from the ID in the City remains Michael Britz, who has returned to his previous political home, the DA.

‘The people of Cape Town deserve better than to be subjected to the rantings of Sasman and Chabaan. The NPP do not have the numbers they claim in the City of Cape Town,’ Grindrod says.

‘We have all had enough of their nonsense – today the ID challenge them to PUT UP OR SHUT UP!’
