ID NEC passes resolution on xenophobia
15H00, 1 June 2008: The National Executive Committee of the Independent Democrats, which met over the weekend in Johannesburg, has passed a resolution on the humanitarian crisis created by the xenophobic attacks of recent weeks.
Agnes Tsamai, ID Deputy President, says the Independent Democrats
NEC has 'called on all the people of South Africa to join hands and
unite against the recent outbreaks of xenophobia in our
communities.
'Over the next week we will communicate to all ID structures, members
and supporters around the country the need to assist wherever possible
in providing humanitarian relief to victims of xenophobia,' Ms Tsamai
says.
The ID Deputy President says the initial call made by the ID to its
members across the country 'to assist the victims of xenophobia has
been well-received.
'The ID calls on the government at all levels to focus the resources at
their disposal to fast track service delivery to the poor across the
country to ease their daily battle for survival,' says Tsamai.
'The ID calls on all political parties to unite in their determination
to build a tolerant and caring society, one which truly reflects the
spirit of our great country.''
