MP Sakkie Jenner, the ID Western Cape Provincial Chairperson has echoed
the call for South Africans to buy local.
Mr Jenner’s statements follow rumours among textile workers in Salt River, in Cape Town that some of the factories in the area will shut down completely this month.
‘The Independent Democrats wants to urge the owners of these clothing factories to play open cards with their workers, if these rumours are true,’ Mr Jenner says.
‘Unemployment is the number one challenge facing South Africa and the Independent Democrats calls on Government to intervene to ensure that quotas on cheap Chinese imports are extended and that all loopholes are closed.
‘We in the Independent Democrats also call on all South Africans to think of the jobs that will be lost if they do not make an effort to buy local,’ says Jenner.
