ID GAUTENG – POLICE TURNING ON EACH OTHER WITH GUNS NEEDS INVESTIGATION
4 DECEMBER 2008-Khosi Mncedane, ID MPL in Gauteng says the Safety and Security Department must investigate the reasons behind two incidents in just 2 days that saw police turning their guns on each other.
Khosi Mncedane, ID MPL in Gauteng says the Safety and Security
Department must investigate the reasons behind two incidents in just 2
days that saw police turning their guns on each other.
Mncedane was commenting after a second shooting incident occurred among police in Pretoria, just 24 hours after two senior police officers killed each other in Mpumalanga.
‘For the Independent Democrats, this is an extremely worrying trend. We call on the Safety and Security Department to investigate the reasons behind the two shooting incidents, so that future conflict management training can help prevent this from happening again,’ Ms Mncedane says.
Mncedane says the shootings ‘could be indicative of the dangerously high levels of post traumatic stress disorder and frustration amongst members of our police service.
‘The Independent Democrats would also like to call for compulsory counselling for all the officers who witnessed the Pretoria incident, as well as those who were involved,’ says Mncedane.
