ID REACTION TO THE DISMISSAL OF NPA HEAD VUSI PIKOLI
8 DECEMBER 2008-ID President Patricia de Lille says the Independent Democrats ‘is disappointed’ that President Kgalema Motlanthe has relieved national director of public prosecutions Vusi Pikoli of his duties.
D President Patricia de Lille says the Independent Democrats ‘is
disappointed’ that President Kgalema Motlanthe has relieved national
director of public prosecutions Vusi Pikoli of his duties.
‘We in the Independent Democrats do not see the point of spending millions of rand on these commissions when government repeatedly rejects and shows scant regard for their recommendations,’ Ms De Lille says.
‘Just like the findings of the Khampepe Commission and the Van Zyl Slabbert Report before it, so have the recommendations of the Ginwala Commission been rejected by the current President.
‘The fact that the President has relieved Mr Pikoli of his duties despite the commission’s findings that he carried out his duties without fear or favour is unacceptable,’ says De Lille.
‘Saying that Pikoli did not fully understand national security interests does not hold water for the ID. National security is too often used by the ANC as a disguise for the protection of the narrow political interests of the ANC.
‘When this matter comes before Parliament, we in the Independent Democrats will stand against Pikoli’s dismissal,’ De Lille says.
