ID GAUTENG WANTS REVIEW OF FINANCE INTERNAL SYSTEMS AT TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT
9 DECEMBER 2008-Khosi Mncedane, ID MPL in Gauteng says the Department of Transport, Roads and Public Works finance systems should review its financing structures.
Khosi Mncedane, ID MPL in Gauteng says the Department of Transport,
Roads and Public Works finance systems should review its financing
structures.
Mncedane’s call follows reports that the department could not find evidence linking internal staff to corruption that has thus far allegedly usurped over R9 million from the Gautrain.
‘We in the Independent Democrats fail to understand that someone from outside could usurp government funds to the tune of millions from the department and not be traced,’ Ms Mncedane says.
‘Taxpayers money should be accounted for and the said Mr H (whose property was bought for six times its asking price in Midrand) should be found as a matter of urgency.
‘This looks very suspicious; how is it that whilst serious investigations are still continuing, the department has already cleared its staff of any wrongdoing?’
‘The ID repeats its call that the department’s head, Sibusiso Buthelezi, be suspended immediately for this unacceptable lapse of accountability,’ says Mncedane.
‘The province is still awaiting a report on the funds amounting to over half-a-billion rand, which were awarded to three empowerment companies for the construction of Jabulani Hospital.’
