| 'A visit like this always reminds me of the
daily reality so many people face and the kind of incredible courage
many of our people have,' Ms De Lille said. The ID Leader started off the visit in early February with a tour of the Society's building and facilities in Salt River, guided by the CEO and Deputy CEO. She saw firsthand how those working at the Society do cane weaving, repair furniture and weave material to earn an income. |

It was during the tour that she met Ouma
Tina for the second time in just two months.'She recognized my voice from the Christmas Day dinner I was invited to at the Baptist Church in Silvertown, Athlone,' Ms De Lille says. 'It was wonderful and inspiring to see her working, especially at her age.' She was also pleased to get the chance to meet Christopher del Carme, who lives with his wife in a Wendy House – the two have been on the housing waiting list for 16 years. 'Mr and Mrs Del Carme have asked me to find out what exactly is the status of their names on that list and I will do it,' says Ms De Lille. Another purpose of the visit was for the ID Leader to hand over copies of the Independent Democrats' 2009 Election Manifesto in braille, which contains over 100 Solutions to our country's major challenges. 'As a party that has a track record of fighting for the rights of all South Africans and offering solutions, the Independent Democrats believes in giving all of our people the chance to be a part of the solution,' says Ms De Lille. The ID Leader said the visit had been
inspiring and called on all Capetonians to support the Society in the
excellent work they are doing. The Cape Town Society for the Blind is a non-profit community-based service organisation which aims to provide blind and visually impaired adults, in the Greater Cape Town and Boland areas, with opportunities to become independent and financially self-sufficient citizens.
